Slope failures along a short stretch of a tributary channel in the Carpenters Bayou watershed in east Harris County are getting the attention they need.
Harris County Flood Control District maintenance crews are repairing several areas of severe erosion in the Cloverleaf neighborhood of Harris County Precinct 2, within Beltway 8 just south of Woodforest Blvd.

Erosion weakened the channel slopes over time, causing multiple failures in this narrow section of the waterway. Rock trenches will be installed to repair the failures and restore the channel’s ability to carry stormwater efficiently.
This deferred maintenance project tackles repairs that were previously delayed due to lack of dedicated maintenance funding. It is part of the Flood Control District’s increased investment in maintenance to preserve and strengthen flood control infrastructure.

Estimated completion of the Cloverleaf maintenance repairs is Q4 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
A Closer Look at the Carpenters Bayou Watershed
The Carpenters Bayou watershed covers approximately 25 square miles in east Harris County and is home to more than 70,700 residents, based on 2020 Census data. The watershed contains approximately 44 miles of open streams, with Carpenters Bayou serving as its primary stream.
Carpenters Bayou begins just west of Lake Houston and flows south into the Houston Ship Channel, generally running alongside the East Sam Houston Tollway and through the Channelview area.
Parts of the watershed also have unique environmental considerations. The main stem of Carpenters Bayou between Market Street and the Houston Ship Channel is heavily vegetated and largely inaccessible. Because of its environmental sensitivity, the Flood Control District considers preservation of this area as part of regional planning for the watershed.
