A drainage improvement is underway along White Oak Bayou near historic Olivewood Cemetery, where Harris County Flood Control District maintenance crews are addressing an area where stormwater has not been draining efficiently.

Located just southwest of Interstate Highway 10 at Studemont Street in Harris County Precinct One, the work includes installation of a new drainage pipe that will provide a more direct path for rainwater to make its way into White Oak Bayou.

The Flood Control District maintains thousands of miles of bayous and channels throughout Harris County. That work includes identifying drainage issues, repairing infrastructure, and addressing conditions that could affect how the drainage system functions.

Near Olivewood Cemetery, crews are installing the new pipe as part of that ongoing maintenance responsibility. The work is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Flood control infrastructure requires regular attention to continue functioning as intended. Smaller maintenance projects like this one can address localized drainage problems before they become larger or more costly issues.

This work is part of the Flood Control District’s increased investment in maintenance to preserve and strengthen Harris County’s flood control infrastructure.

What Trail Users Should Know

Because the work is taking place near the White Oak Bayou Greenway Trail, a section of the trail will temporarily close while crews are onsite.

The trail will remain open outside of active construction hours. The Houston Parks Board has provided detour information for people walking, running, or biking through the area.

Trail users can review the temporary detour route and should follow posted signs while crews are working.
