Sometimes, keeping stormwater moving the way it should means restoring its original path. Over time, erosion and sediment buildup can shift a channel, directing its flow off course. Realigning a channel helps bring it back to where it can carry stormwater more efficiently. That’s part of the work the Harris County Flood Control District is doing in the Hunting Bayou watershed in northeast Harris County.

The work ahead:
- Hirsch Road & King Street near Francis Scott Key Middle School (HCFCD Project ID: H118-00-00-X003) – Addressing overgrowth, erosion, sediment buildup, and outfall and slope failures.

- Homestead Road & North Loop East near Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (HCFCD Project ID: H108-01-00-X003) – Repairing significant erosion and realigning the channel.

These maintenance projects tackle repairs that were previously delayed due to lack of dedicated maintenance funding. They are part of our increased investment in maintenance to preserve and strengthen our flood control infrastructure.
