About this Project
Phase 1 of the Keegans Bayou Stormwater Detention Basin near Old Richmond Road will construct a dry-bottom compartment that will provide approximately 400 acre-feet of stormwater storage — that is roughly the equivalent of 400 football fields covered in one foot of water. A stormwater detention basin temporarily holds stormwater during heavy rain events to help reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
This project is expected to include two additional compartments and channel conveyance improvements in a future phase.
Funding
- A construction contract was recently awarded to Sprint Sand & Clay, LLC in the amount of $5.5 million.
- This project is receiving funding through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program, provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the Texas General Land Office.
- Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher also secured $959,752 for this project through Community Directed Funding.
- The 2018 Bond Program is expected to contribute approximately $1.3 million.
The project is located south of Old Richmond Road and north of Keegans Bayou. It is bordered to the east by Keegans Bayou tributary (D118-14-00) and to the west by Synott Road.
Anticipated Schedule
- Construction Start: Q2 2026
- Construction Completion: Q2 2027
