Reducing flood risk requires coordination across the many systems Harris County residents rely on, including drainage, roads, and tollways. Harris County Flood Control District Executive Director Marcus Stuckett has emphasized his commitment to working closely with the Harris County Engineering Department and Harris County Toll Road Authority to improve communication and support efficient project delivery.
Harris County Commissioners Court recently approved the creation of an infrastructure working group that brings together the Flood Control District, Harris County Engineering Department, and Harris County Toll Road Authority. The group will provide a regular opportunity for leaders to share information, discuss challenges, and identify opportunities to work together.
During the discussion, Stuckett said stronger coordination would support, rather than slow, the Flood Control District’s work.
“I actually think it would help,” Stuckett said. “One of the things that I wanted to prioritize was making sure that we, as infrastructure, were all on one page.”
Although each organization has different responsibilities, their work often intersects. Road and tollway projects may involve drainage infrastructure, while flood risk reduction projects may require coordination with other county departments.
Bringing leaders together can help identify project connections earlier, share successful practices, and address challenges before they affect schedules or delivery.
For Harris County residents, stronger coordination can support more efficient infrastructure investments and help ensure projects are planned with a broader understanding of community needs.
Residents can stay involved by following project updates, participating in public meetings, and sharing local concerns about drainage and other infrastructure needs.
The Flood Control District is continuing to make historic progress in flood risk reduction projects and maintenance efforts thanks to voter support and dedicated staff. Stay informed by following us on social media.
