Why do sinkholes keep appearing near Inwood Street and West Main Street in Tomball? The problem is tied to the enclosed Spring Creek tributary nearby.
Crews traced the problem to soil loss through weep holes, which are drainage openings in concrete-lined channels that relieve water pressure and prevent cracking. As the old filters inside the weep holes deteriorate, soil behind the channel lining washes through and creates sinkholes.

Crews will:
- Replace deteriorated weep holes
- Find and seal leaks
- Repair damaged outfall pipes
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
This project is part of our increased investment in maintenance to preserve and strengthen our flood control infrastructure.
