About this Project
Compartment 1B of the T.C. Jester Stormwater Detention Basin is designed to provide approximately 793 acre-feet of storage — that is roughly the equivalent of 793 football fields covered in one foot of water.
A stormwater detention basin temporarily holds stormwater during heavy rain events to help reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
The T.C. Jester Stormwater Detention Basin project is expected to consist of four compartments: one on the west side of T.C. Jester Boulevard and three on the east side: 1A, 1B, and 2. Construction on the other two east compartments, 1A and 2, is estimated to start in Q4 2026, with the west compartment following in Q1 2027.
Funding
- Compartment 1B received $12 million in state community-directed funding, secured by State Representative Sam Harless through the Texas Water Development Board.
- Compartment 1B is receiving funding up to $25.9 million through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program, provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the Texas General Land Office.
- The project is located just north of Cypress Creek at T.C. Jester Boulevard and Cypresswood Drive.
Anticipated Schedule
- Construction Start: Q1 2026
- Construction Completion: Q2 2027
