The Harris County Flood Control District, in partnership with the City of La Porte, began Phase 2 of the Brookglen Stormwater Detention Basin in early 2026. Located near Somerton Drive and Ashwyne Lane, this project is designed to help reduce the risk of flooding in the Brookglen subdivision

The stormwater detention basin has been designed to temporarily store excess stormwater in three separate compartments, allowing stormwater to be released slowly and safely. The detention basin will typically remain dry, only filling during heavy rain events.
Construction of Phase 1 was completed in Q2 2025. Construction on Phase 2 is expected to continue through early 2027, weather and site conditions permitting. Combined, the Phase 1 and Phase 2 Compartments will provide about 50.4acre-feet of stormwater storage.
Residents may notice increased truck traffic and heavy equipment operating during daylight hours. Gladwyne Lane is expected to remain open, and construction vehicles will enter and exit the site via Somerton Drive. Projects like the Brookglen Stormwater Detention Basin are part of a broader countywide effort to make communities more resilient.
The Flood Control District is continuing to make historic progress in flood risk reduction projects and maintenance efforts thanks to voter support and dedicated staff. Stay informed by following us on social media.
