Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) has completed slope repairs along a small tributary of the San Jacinto River in Kingwood. The channel, identified as G103-38-01, experienced significant erosion during Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
The damaged area is located near Forest Garden Drive and Twin Grove Lane, east of the West Fork San Jacinto River. Following the storm, HCFCD determined that side slope failure in this section posed a risk to the function of the drainage system.
Project Details
- The channel is part of the San Jacinto River watershed.
- Repairs included restoring the channel side slopes to their pre-storm condition.
- Construction work has been completed, and disturbed areas have been seeded to promote vegetation growth.
The project is part of a larger effort by HCFCD to restore damaged drainage infrastructure after Hurricane Harvey using disaster recovery funding.
Why This Work Was Important
The side slope failure affected the stability and effectiveness of the channel. Restoring the slopes helps ensure that the tributary can carry stormwater efficiently, reducing the risk of further erosion or disruption to the surrounding area.
This work supports ongoing efforts to improve flood resilience across Harris County, especially in areas that were heavily impacted by past storms.
