The Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) reopened the Scarsdale Boulevard bridge in 2022 as part of the Mud Gully channel improvement project in southeast Harris County. At the same time, the Beamer Road bridge closed temporarily to allow for additional construction.
The project is part of Bond Project C-03, which focuses on improving stormwater flow in the Mud Gully channel (HCFCD Unit A120-00-00). These improvements are intended to help reduce flood risks in the area by increasing the channel’s capacity to carry stormwater runoff.
Bridge Closures and Progress
- Scarsdale Blvd. Bridge: Reopened to traffic in January 2022 after being closed for approximately four months.
- Beamer Road Bridge: Closed temporarily starting in late January 2022 to allow for bridge reconstruction and channel conveyance improvements in that section.
All roadwork is being coordinated with the Harris County Engineering Department to minimize impacts on traffic and nearby communities.
About the Project
The Mud Gully Channel Conveyance Improvements are designed to:
- Improve stormwater flow
- Increase capacity within the channel
- Replace or modify existing bridges as needed to meet updated flood control standards
This is a multi-phase project and part of the 2018 Bond Program approved by Harris County voters. The program aims to address flood risks through long-term infrastructure investments across the county.
