The Harris County Flood Control District is currently working on an erosion repair project along Turkey Creek in the Memorial area.
Turkey Creek is a tributary of Buffalo Bayou. It starts in Addicks Reservoir and flows about six miles southwest, passing under Interstate 10 (U.S. 90), the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad tracks, and the Houston city limits before joining Buffalo Bayou near Addicks. Along the way, it winds through parts of the Houston area that are well developed.
Where We Are Working
Maintenance crews are working along Turkey Creek just south of Memorial Drive and east of Eldridge Parkway, within the Buffalo Bayou watershed.
Why This Work Is Needed
Over time, erosion has been moving downstream along this section of the creek. The erosion has been getting close to the access road for nearby townhomes. This project will stabilize the channel and help reduce the risk of future erosion before it becomes a larger issue.
Project Timeline
The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026. We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete this important maintenance work.
The Flood Control District is continuing to make historic progress in flood risk reduction projects and maintenance efforts thanks to voter support and dedicated staff. Stay informed by following us on social media.
