Thanksgiving Day can feature a wide range of weather for the City of Houston and Harris County, from low temperatures below freezing to high temperatures in the upper 80’s, with an average temperature around 60°F.
The coldest temperature recorded on Thanksgiving Day was 23° in 1911 and the hottest was 87° in 1973 at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The wettest Thanksgiving Day at IAH was in 2021 when 1.87 inches of rain fell.
At William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), the coldest temperature recorded was 28° in 1980 and the hottest was 86° in 1973. The wettest day at HOU was in 2022 when 1.53 inches of rain fell.
In the last 25 years of weather record at IAH (since the year 2000):
- Rain has fallen on 8 Thanksgiving Days and each of the last four Thanksgivings has seen at least 0.01 inches of rain
- The temperature has dropped below freezing only once, a low of 31° in 2013
- The warmest Thanksgiving during this period was 83° in 2010
- Temperature highs have reached above 70° in 64% of the years (16 out of 25 years)
- Temperature lows have been 50° or colder in 60% of the years (15 out of 25 years)
The forecast for Thanksgiving Day this year is for mostly sunny skies and cool conditions, with lows in the 40’s and 50’s and highs in the mid to upper 60’s.
